Patrani Macchi is a classic dish from Parsi cuisine. In this recipe, spicy green coconut chutney is smothered in fish. Which is then wrapped in banana leaves, and steamed to perfection. Parsis migrated to India from Persia and are descended from the Persian Zoroastrians. It is a small community but is quite influential. Parsis literally love their food and are quite serious about it. It ain’t no surprise that they are the creators of this lip-smacking dish. Patrani Macchi is definitely a must-try for seafood lovers! Serve it along with white steam rice and delish this Parsi meal.

    How to make Patrani Macchi at home

    Step 1

    To begin, first prepare the fish marination, in a chutney jar add coriander & mint leaves, green chilies, grated coconut, cumin seeds, salt, sugar, lemon juice.

    Step 2

    Blend it well to a thick paste consistency without using water.

    Step 3

    Clean the fish and make slits on both sides of the fish. Spread the chutney all over the fish, making sure to add some in the slits.

    Step 4

    Preheat the steamer, meanwhile apply refined oil to the banana leaf, and wrap each piece separately, covering all 4 sides without breaking & tearing the leaf.

    Step 5

    Place the wrapped fish in the steamer, and steam it for 15-20 mins.

    Step 6

    Once done unwrap the fish, arrange it on a platter and serve it with white rice along with some lemon and green chilies.
