Rice is a staple food in most states of India. It is eaten for breakfast, lunch, or dinner in many parts of the country. Steamed rice is quick to make and goes with any kind of gravy, dal, or curry. Steamed rice is also tempered to make a variety of Indian dishes like lemon rice, jeera rice, tamarind rice, or tomato rice. Many of us go wrong in adding the right amount of water while cooking the rice. The amount of water determines if your rice turns out mushy and sticky or fluffy. So here is a simple way to make steamed rice on the stovetop in a pot without the use of a pressure cooker.

Cooking Time : 15 min
1. Rice1 cup
2. Water2 cups
3. Salt1/2 tsp(optional)
1. Rinse rice twice under running water to help remove excess start and dirt.
2. Keep a large pot and bring the water to a boil. You can add salt if you like at this stage. Add rice to the boiling water and stir.
3. Cook for five minutes uncovered and once the water level drops to the level of the rice reduce the heat.
4. Now cover and cook the rice for about 10 minutes till all the water is absorbed. Turn off the heat and let the steamed rice stand for 10 minutes.
5. After 10 minutes open the lid and fluff up the steamed rice with the help of a spoon or fork.
6. Serve Steamed rice with Dal, gravy, and a sabzi of your choice. You can also use steamed rice to make other tempered rice preparations
