Chicken Donne Biryani originated in Karnataka, Bengaluru.

Donne refers to the eco-friendly palm leaf plates/cups in which the biryani is served.

And that is the story behind the name “Donne Biryani”



    How to make Chicken Donne Biryani at home

    Step 1

    Clean & wash chicken. Marinate it with ginger paste, garlic paste, lemon juice & curd.

    Step 2

    Wash & soak the rice

    Step 3

    Dry roast fennel seeds, bay leaf, star anise, cinnamon stick, cloves, black peppercorn, cumin seeds

    Step 4

    Deep fry the Coriander,Mint,Methi leaves with green chili, the make a fine paste of the combined dry roast spices & deep fried greens

    Step 5

    Heat oil in a deep pan, add the remaining whole spices, saute well, add the marinated chicken and cook for 3-4 mins by stirring continuously.

    Step 6

    To this, add green biryani paste, mix well for 2-3 mins.

    Step 7

    Add soaked rice mix well, Add water as needed.

    Step 8

    Seal with lid tightly, cook for 15-20 mins.

    Step 9

    Cook till done in dum method, Check the seasonings, drizzle some ghee

    Step 10

    Serve hot. Preferably in local leaf Donne plates.
