Diwali Special: Chocolate Mohanthal Recipe

This Diwali, you can make different kinds of sweets and desserts for your family. The recipe that I’m going to share with you today is a very special sweet dish that is made on the occasion of Deepawali. This delicious chocolatey dessert is called Chocolate mohanthal or Diwali ki Mithai.

Ingredients of Chocolate Mohanthal

10 Servings

1 1/2 cup gram flour (besan)

1/4 cup milk

1 cup cocoa powder

1 cup of ghee

3/4 cup sugar

Chocolate Mohanthal: How to make it?

Step 1: Make besan crumbly

Pour besan into an empty bowl. Add two tablespoons of ghee and 2 tbsp of milk to it. Mix thoroughly with your hands until it is crumbly. Then, you can transfer the besan into a Sift. This will ensure that the Mohanthal is danedar.

Step 2. Roast the besan using Ghee

Ghee is heated in a pan. Add the besan and mix them well. Mix well to avoid any lumps. Roast for a couple of minutes until the entire Ghee is completely absorbed. Stir, and continue roasting. After a few minutes, you’ll notice that the ghee begins to release, and the mixture is removed from the edges of the pot. The combination will change to a golden brown. This process takes about 15 minutes.

Step 3 Add cocoa and milk.

In a small dish, mix cocoa and milk. Utilize a whisk or fork to mix it well. Mix the mixture into the pan, and mix thoroughly to mix it together with besan. Mix continuously for another 2 minutes. Once you have a rich blend, shut off the heat.

Step 4: Make sugar syrup.

Then add 3/4 cup sugar to a pot as well as 1/2 cup of water. Mix thoroughly and let the syrup get to a boil. Then simmer it until you have a single-string consistency syrup. Pour this syrup into the besan mix and restart the fire. Mix thoroughly to mix the two. Continue cooking for a few minutes until the sugar syrup has been completely absorbed. The result will appear as something like Halwa.

Step 5: Let it sit and serve.

Then, take the mixture in a tray, and distribute it evenly, keeping the barfi’s thickness. Allow it to set over 3-4 days. Cut into thick barfis and serve.

Tips
  1. Sprinkle with any nuts that you would like for an extra rich taste.
