Handia: Rice Beer

Handia is another lesser-known alcoholic drink popular in Bihar, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal. Rice and other ingredients are used to make the drink. The fermentation process takes more than a week, and on auspicious days, the product is given to their tribal God.

Lugdi: Cereal Beer

You might recall that Ranbir Kapoor took a sip of Lugdi for courage in Ye Jawani Hain Deewani. People who live in Himachal should have this drink made by fermenting water and soaking rice grains for 24 hours and then leaving them for 12 to 20 days in a warm place. The summer season is best for making this drink. However, the consumption is delayed till winter. 

Kiad Um: Tart & Sweet Local Drink

The local tribes in Meghalaya use Kiad Um in their staple diet. They consume the drink as part of their diet. The drink is served in times of celebrations and festivals. The priest offers Kiad Um to God as their offering. Kiad-Um is put together with red rice grown in the area and medicinal plants that have been passed down for generations.
