4 Food for Picky Eaters

Eating is an essential part of everyone’s life. Everyone has to eat every day, but not everyone likes to eat the same things. Some people are picky eaters and will refuse to eat certain foods no matter what you do. However, there are ways that you can encourage them to try new things and make them more willing to try new foods in the future!

Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

Peanut butter and jelly sandwich is a good choice for a picky eater. It’s cheap, easy to make and kid-friendly. It’s also a good source of protein (peanut butter), calcium (jelly) and vitamin C (jelly).

Make sure you buy the unsweetened kind of jelly, so they don’t get too much sugar.

Chicken Nuggets

  • Chicken tenders are a great way to introduce your picky eater to meat. The fact that they’re bite-sized makes them easy for even the smallest children to manage on their own, and the simple preparation means you don’t have to worry about cutting up chicken or cooking it until it’s done just right—just fry. ’em up in a pan!
  • Chicken nuggets are an excellent source of protein, vitamins, and minerals; one serving provides about 40 percent of your daily iron needs as well as 20 percent zinc.


Spaghetti is a great choice for picky eaters because it’s easy to make and appeals to the kid in all of us. It is also a good source of protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals.

Hot Dogs

  • Be careful to avoid the hot dog buns that have added sugar, like ones with raisins or chocolate chips. You want whole wheat or plain white bread, but don’t worry if they’re not whole wheat; it’s still better than your average bun with added sugar.
  • Do look for no-salt-added varieties of all the meats and veggies in this list (except hot dogs). Not only are they healthier, but you’ll be able to control the amount of sodium yourself by how much salt you choose to add when cooking them up!
  • If you like cheese on your hot dogs, stick with something low fat like cheddar—the fattier stuff tends not to melt as easily and won’t taste quite as good either!

  • Have a variety of foods and offer new foods each week. You can set up a weekly schedule so that your child gets to try something new and different every day or week.
  • Don’t force them to eat something if they don’t like it. Let your child decide for himself whether he wants to try the food or not, and if he does not want to, don’t make him do so just because you want him to!
  • Don’t give up on trying new things altogether! Keep offering them in small portions until they are willing to try something new…and eventually, they might actually like it! If they don’t want anything at all, then just go with it – having some veggies is better than nothing at all 🙂
  • Don’t be overly concerned by what other people think about how you feed your child (and vice versa). If someone asks why their kid doesn’t eat anything but chicken nuggets – just tell them honestly why: “Because he won’t eat anything else right now :)” Or “Well our family eats this way for religious reasons…” Whatever works best for you as an individual parent who knows what’s best for their family 🙂
